Of Rashes and Roseola

Ian turned 11 months old on the sixth, but I wasn't able to take his picture in the big brown chair yet. A week ago today, I noticed in the evening that he felt pretty warm. I attributed it to the fact he was wearing a sweater when it was one of those oddly warm days for November in Ohio. After I took off the sweater, he cooled down and I didn't think anything more of it. Then in the middle of the night, I noticed again that he felt very warm-plus he was restless and not sleeping well.

We got up on Election Day and after a very laborious process of fitting his carseat into my next door neighbor's car along with two booster seats for Anna and her daughter Gabby, we went to vote. Not long after we got home, Ian's temperature spiked high. When I checked it, it was almost 104 degrees. He ended up sleeping fitfully for the rest of the day....an hour awake, an hour asleep. He continued with the fever for almost four days. I figured it was a virus and didn't even call our pediatrician. I would call if he was still feverish after 4 or 5 days or so. When he woke up on Friday with the fever gone, I was so relieved. Could I finally put him down? Could I finally run and pee when needed during the day? lol Could I load or even unload the dishwasher? Well, sort of. He was definitely better but not his normal cheery self at all.

When he woke up Saturday morning he was acting even better, although still pretty cranky. I thought we were on the road to recovery until I took off his sleeper and discovered that he was covered in little red spots and bumps. One quick call to the pediatrician later and yup, it's confirmed. He has roseola. As of today the rash is finally fading and he's acting much, much better. I loaded the dishwasher AND sorted some papers. Wowzers. :-D Poor baby. You could tell how sick he was from how dull his eyes were. As of today, that mischievious sparkle is back. I'm so glad!

Oh NO! I'm glad his sparkle is back, and that he is on the mend, but I agree....poor baby. Doesn't sound fun at all. Man, you've been through quite a bit these days. I hope some good news comes your way soon.
